'Light up your creativity' Contest FAQs

  1. What is the contest period for 'Light up your creativity?

    Contest Period17 July to 17 September 2017 (11.59pm) (GMT +8:00)

  2. Who can participate in this contest?

    The Contest is open only to residents of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines who are 18 years or older as at the date of participation. Employees of Sony and its affiliates in Participating Countries, advertising and promotion agencies of Sony together with their employees, and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each of the said persons are not eligible to participate in this Contest.

  3. How many photos can I upload?

    Each participant may submit up to (5) five different photos.

  4. How do I submit my photo(s)?

    All photo(s) can be submitted online via the website: capture.sony-asia.com

  5. Are photo(s) taken by other camera and flash brands/models eligible for this contest?

    We only accept entries taken by Sony's cameras. However, third party flash products are acceptable. (i.e.: Sony's camera with Sony's Flash or Sony's camera with third party flash)

  6. What size/format should I submit?

    All photos submitted are required to be in JPEG format and with EXIF details intact. Each photo submitted shall be no less than 800kb in size and the maximum file size shall be no more than 10MB. All participants must provide a high resolution photo that is suitable for printing in exhibitions and marketing materials. i.e.: 300dpi, at least A2 (42.0 x 59.4cm) size.

  7. Can I submit edited photo(s)?

    Photo(s) that are modified with any image editing software or equivalent programs are accepted. Participant guarantees that photo enhancement was made via use of legally acquired software. Participants have to state clearly in the photo description at the point of submission on what is being edited.

  8. Can I view my submitted photo(s) on the website?

    All entries are confidential and photos submitted will not be shown immediately on the gallery. Notable submissions will be featured on a Facebook post during the contest.

  9. Why are my photo(s) not displayed in the gallery?

    It could be because your submitted photo does not meet the criteria (i.e.: Photo not taken using Sony's camera with Sony's Flash or Sony's camera with third party flash). Please also note that all photos must not contain obscene, provocative or politically-inappropriate content.

  10. Can I change my photo(s) after submission?

    No. Once you have submitted your photo(s), you will not be able to change it.

  11. I am unable to upload my photo(s), what should I do?

    Please ensure that your photo(s)'s file size is above 800KB size in JPEG format.
    It might be because your photo(s) size is too large for the local Internet connection and we suggest that you resize the photo(s) and try again.
    If you continue to face problems, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  12. Who will be judging my photo(s)?

    Each photo entry for the Contest will be judged by a panel of judge consisting of a Sony's α Professional Photographer and Sony representative(s).

  13. What are the judging criteria for the winning photos?

    The Grand Winner will be chosen based on the overall composition, technicality, execution and creativity of the photo.

  14. What are the prizes for this contest?

  15. Where can I get tips & ideas on how to shoot?

  16. Is judging anonymous?

    Yes, we respect the integrity of the photographers and therefore judging is anonymous. Judges will not know the names of any of the participants.

  17. How can I find out the results of the competition?

    Results of all winners will be announced on 3 October 2017 via a Facebook post on the Sony - Power of Imaging Southeast Asia Facebook page.
    The winners will also be notified separately by email or telephone and will be required to acknowledge by return email no later than 7 days after the notification was sent. Sony reserves the right to deal with all unclaimed prizes in any manner deems fit.

  18. Can I participate in other competitions using the same photo(s)?

    Yes. You may participate in other photography competitions; we have no exclusivity rights to your photo(s).

  19. Does Sony have the rights to use my photo(s)? Will my photo(s) be used in any other way?

    By submitting the Contest entries, each participant thereby specifically authorizes Sony to use and/or license third parties to use, without compensation, gain or rewards, a non-exclusive and irrevocable license to use, republish, edit and/or modify the Contest photos in any media for marketing and promotional purposes which include but not limited to publication at Sony's store.

  20. Should there be watermark/copyright information added to the photos submitted for the contest?

    No. All photo(s) must be clear of any copyright information so that the photographer's identity is not revealed by the photo(s).  In the interest of fairness, the judges are not allowed to see the names of the participants when judging. Any photos that do contain participants' names on the photo or any other watermark/copyright information will be disqualified.
